Enjoy transit in Dubai! Too much entertainment “Dubai Mall”

Dubai

Hello! This is Shimao. In this second article about the Dubai Transit, I would like to introduce the Dubai Mall, a popular tourist spot. I believe you enjoy your visit to the Dubai Mall, even if you are not interested in shopping.

What can I do at the Dubai Mall?

Dubai Mall is the largest shopping mall in Dubai, with over 1,200 stores. Its layered site area is the equivalent of 200 soccer fields, or 1 million square meters…. (Visit Dubai). There are a wide variety of experiences packed into that ultra-spacious mall. Among them, I would like to highlight four experiences that I recommend.

Four things you can do
  1. Shopping It’s harder to find something that isn’t sold…?
  2. Aquarium A huge water tank can be seen from the free area!
  3. Gourmet Gourmet from all over the world!
  4. Fountain Performance If time permits, you should see it at least once…!

When strolling around the mall, you will surely get lost in the sheer vastness of the place, so it would be convenient to have the official app to guide you through the mall’s route from GPS.

Access to the Dubai Mall

The Dubai Mall can be reached by either bus or metro. I took the Metro Red line and got off at the Dubai Mall Metro Station. The direct connection from the station to the mall means you don’t have to worry about the weather, but the walk to the mall is longer than you might expect. There is a moving walk on part of the way, but be prepared to walk about 10 minutes.

Shopping

Brands, accessories, food, books… Stores of all kinds are gathered at the Dubai Mall. You can buy some souvenirs before returning home, shopaholics may be able to spend several days just at the Dubai Mall.

Aquarium

Giant water tank suddenly appears in the mall

There is even an aquarium in the vast Dubai Mall! The name is Dubai Aquarium & underwater Zoo. I did not go inside because I did not have enough time, but even if you do not go inside the aquarium, the huge tanks that you can see are breathtaking. If you want to enjoy all the exhibits of the aquarium, you need to buy a ticket, but be warned that it is quite expensive. If you are not going for the aquarium, just looking at it from the aisle will be enough to enjoy it!

Food court

The Dubai Mall has two food courts, one on the ground floor and the other on the second floor. Each food court has different restaurants, so if there is a restaurant you are looking for, check which food court it is located in. There are a variety of restaurants from global chains such as McDonald’s to Middle Eastern restaurants. When I visited, ALBAIK, a Saudi Arabian burger chain, was very popular. I had a stew-like dish called gholmeh sabzi at an Iranian restaurant, which was delicious (~$20). The waiter asked me where I am from and I told him I was from Japan. Somehow we ended up exchanging Japanese coins for UAE coins. Is it hard to see Japanese people these days…?

There are also many restaurants except food court. You will surely find something you want to eat!

Night is the best time! Dubai Fountain

If you can stay through the night, I highly recommend seeing the show at the adjacent Dubai Fountain, where you can see a music and water show every 30 minutes starting at 6 pm. The walkway, which is close enough to the water to be seen, requires an admission fee, but the show can be viewed for free from the terrace of a Dubai Mall restaurant or from around the pond. The scale of the show is so large that it is better to view the whole show from a slightly backward position. While you are waiting, you can enjoy the night view of the buildings and the illumination of Burj Khalifa, the world’s largest man-made structure, as if you have jumped into the world of science fiction movies!

How was it? The Dubai Mall is a classic sightseeing spot, enjoy it from many different sides!
